Training
Trained in a small workshop in St. Albans, Mike Newnham completed five years of apprenticeship to qualify as a watch and clock maker.
During this apprenticeship Mike restored clocks as small as 30 hour alarm clocks to as large as turret clocks (clock tower clocks).
From the earliest 30 hour, weight and rope driven Lantern clocks to the modern reproduction mechanical mantel and wall clocks.
Having also worked on and restored all types of long case clocks from 200 year old antiques to modern reproduction models.
Mike became competent in all aspects of clock construction, repairs and maintenance.
In the Final years of the apprenticeship Mike repaired watches of all qualities, including Omega, Rolex, Cartier and many other prestige brands.
Mike continued repairing clocks at the St. Albans workshop for four years after completing the apprenticeship, after which he relocated to a Watford Jewellers to continue repairing clocks.
